Meet Magpie and her story of rags to riches she goes from stray street dog to someone’s furever friend.
The tale is not an unusual one, but it’s not often we see it directly from a dog’s point of view. Magpie’s Story offers us a unique insight into the struggles that stray dogs face, as well as the joy of coming home forever.
Created for the Law of the Paw campaign — which encourages existing and future pet families to adopt, spay and neuter, and tag their pets — writer Ellie Anderson of the Carmichael Lynch Agency set out to create a video that would really bring home the reality many homeless dogs and cats face. Armed with a superpetite and superversatile camera attached to a Thundershirt worn by Magpie (played by a dog named Jules), the crew used Los Angeles as a backdrop to their uplifting story. And lest you worry that the pup had to perform any dangerous stunts, we spoke with Anderson, who informed us that the trickier shots were obtained by placing the camera on a stick.
Anderson said they were inspired to tell the story from a dog’s point of view because there’s no better way to understand a person’s struggles than to walk a mile in his shoes — or paws! The result is deeply moving, and Anderson hopes the film inspires people to sign the Law of the Paw pledge so that one day Magpie’s Story becomes ancient history.
