Fashion has “Gone to the Dogs”
When searching online for some craft inspiration, I came across the Trashion Fashion show in Sonoma, California. I got in touch with show organizer Margaret Hatcher, who said, “The Trashion Fashion Show was conceived by the Sonoma Community Center as a way to highlight its sustainability programs, which focus on education around topics like water conservation and recycling.”
The 2015 show’s Grand Prize winner was a dress called “Gone to the Dogs,” crafted out of dog and cat food bags woven together with bird netting. When model Allison Napier walked the runway wearing this pretty darn glamorous dress (especially for being made out of garbage), the announcer explained that designers Joni Derickson and Alexa Wood used Mylar strips from Blue Wilderness dog and cat food bags donated from animals at a local ranch/winery, a rescue and a pet supply store.
There was also a Poodle skirt featuring 35 felted dogs and cats made from real fur donated from a local dog grooming business and the designer’s own two cats. “Dog food bags are a popular media to work with, but this is the first year I have seen dog and cat hair!” Hatcher said.

Animal Journals: Dogs
I love journals and notebooks, and I especially love these from Princeton Architectural Press, because they have dogs on them! Featuring colorful prints by artists Ben Giles, Leah Reena Goren, Geoffrey Martin, and Alice Pattullo, each paperback journal has lined paper, a sewn spine, and measures 5.5 by 7 inches.

Nick Bateman and his dog, Joey
Model/actor Nick Bateman and his Yorkie, Joey, are best pals. I’ve enjoyed following Nick’s account and seeing adorable pictures of them together.
Whether they’re eating, napping, or just hanging out, their pictures are bound to put a smile on your face. I, for one, can’t help but go “aww.”
