We had a 1 year old male Rottweiler that we put to sleep yesterday at our vets recommendation. He had stopped eating 1 1/2 weeks ago (except for people food) and had lost over 30 pounds, was vomiting after drinking water, and he wasnt having any bowel movements. When I first took him in last week, the vet told me to change his diet and gave me some de-worming pills and anti-acids to help with the vomiting, and bland diet canned food. He ate the first day and then I couldnt get him to touch it again.
During this time, he began drinking more and more water than normal and was urinating often (even indoors which he hadnt done in months). When we took him in yesterday, they took x-rays. Those x-rays showed that he had fluid build-up in his abdomen and intestines (couldnt see much else because of all the build-up). The x-rays also showed some dark masses near his ribs. The vet said he hadnt seen anything like it before and told us that even with surgery, he would have less than a 30% chance to live.
My biggest struggle is trying to understand what could have happened to my dog. He was healthy one week and two weeks later we had to put him to sleep.
