Orchestral harpist Marcia Dickstein has played for audiences around the world. Performances at home, though, inspired her latest project.
Dickstein noticed that whenever the family dogs were present in the practice room, they quickly fell asleep during her warm-ups. Watch the classical musician and her pups in action — or inaction, as the case may be.
This repeated reaction inspired Dickstein to create Chill Dog, a collection of improvisational pieces performed by Dickstein and recorded by Grammy-winning producer audio producer and engineer Frederick Vogler. Both believe that the songs, along with their electronic enhancement, work to calm dogs and ease separation anxiety over time; a recent study published in the Journal of Veterinary Behavior shows that such soundtracks work.
