Amanda Rodgers of England married Sheba, loyal terrier, in a small ceremony attended by about 200 guests.
“Sheba had been in my life for years, making me laugh and comforting me when I was feeling low,” she told the Metro. “I couldn’t think of anything more I’d need from a life partner.”
The bride wore black stockings and suspenders for the ceremony, while Sheba, the dog, wore a traditional bridal frock.
It is the second trip down the aisle for Rodgers, who was married for a few months 20 years ago. That marriage was to a man. This is Sheba’s first marriage. Sheba is a dog. The ceremony ended with a kiss, then everyone threw confetti.
“It was a wonderful moment,” said Rodgers.
The two met when Sheba was a young, fresh-faced puppy, and it was love at first sight.
“She was two weeks old and she was new to the world — but I fell in love with her,” she told host Phillip Schofield on the British show This Morning. “I knew that we were meant to be.”
The interviewer then wondered, in his head, privately, whether Rodgers understood that most dog owners feel like parents to their young dog and not something … else.
Rodgers said on the show, “There are different kinds of love — my love for Sheba is very deep. We have a deep connection.”
“I am totally her bitch,” she continued.
Very well then.
The bride works in the nightlife industry — she organizes a gothic music night in Brixton called Stranger than Paradise.
“A twisted exotic romp of Balkan beats, gypsy laments, and cossack high kicks,” she says, delightedly.
Sheba primarily works in the food industry; namely, eating it.
Though Rodgers is a good hundred pounds larger than the dog, Sheba controls what happens in the bedroom.
“Men don’t come anywhere near the bedroom unless she agrees,” Rodgers said in the ITV interview. “One time I made a man sleep in the dog bed for a whole week.”
We’re not pretending to understand any of that. Let’s move on.
Rodgers said she proposed to the dog by getting down on one knee: “I got down on one knee and proposed. I could tell by her tail wagging that she said yes.”
OH COME ON NOW.
