Want to know what the largest North American dog festival is? It’s Woofstock.

Shutting down the streets of Toronto’s historic St. Lawrence Market neighborhood, Woofstock 2012 hosted thousands of dogs and their humans over the weekend. With vendors, contests, and a parade of dogs, we wish we could have been there for this Summer of Doggie Love.

But that’s okay — we’ll live vicariously through these photos. Maybe next year.

Started in 2003, the little outdoor festival quickly expanded into a large-scale affair, offering guests Yappy Hour (complete with Wooftinis), High Tea at the King Edward Hotel, Muttrimonies, a Woofstock Fashion Show, a Ms. and Mr. Canine Canada contest, and a Stupid Dog Tricks competition.

It sounds amazing — and it was free.

Inviting folks to enjoy “peace, love, and drool,” Woofstock was an opportunity for dogs and dog-lovers to congregate and celebrate humanity’s bestest best friend. After all, do you know anyone else in the world who’s willing to don a silly costume and walk around for your amusement? Yeah, we didn’t think so.

Long live the dog — and long live Woofstock!
