Woollydogs are the lovingly handmade creations of an artist in England, who, upon receiving photos of your dog, needle felts an identical miniature version of your pup out of wool. Each ornamental piece (read: These are not intended as toys!) requires 10 to 15 hours of delicate teasing, shaping, and firming raw wool — including Moorit Shetland and Jacob — to transform into the familiar shape of your beloved canine. The finished pieces can rest in the palm of your hand.
Woollydogs became popular when musician Lily Allen commissioned the artist to create a miniature wool dog sculpture of her canine companion Mabel. The “Smile” singer was so pleased with the little wool dog that she shared a photo of it, generating a rush of commissions for Woollydogs.
Prices for your own Woollydog start at $300, and they can take up to a month to complete depending on the complexity of the subject in question. The delicate, intricate, spot-on replicas are totally worth it, and their smallness speaks to the love we feel for our dogs.
